Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has abruptly dismissed an interviewer’s question regarding his contract situation at Anfield. The Dutch defender’s current deal, along with those of Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, is set to expire at the end of this season.

Last week, The Athletic reported that Liverpool had made a formal initial offer to Van Dijk, which did not meet his expectations. Despite previously expressing a desire to remain at Anfield, Van Dijk appeared to have little patience for further inquiries about his future following Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Girona on Tuesday night.

After the match, in which he helped Liverpool maintain a clean sheet, Van Dijk was visibly subdued while discussing the result with BBC Radio 5Live. When asked about Salah’s performance and its implications for his future, Van Dijk quickly interrupted the interviewer and tersely addressed his own contract situation.

“And just a word on contract talks,” the interviewer asked, only to be quickly interrupted by Van Dijk. “There is no word,” he stated.

Despite further attempts from the interviewer to extract information about his future, Van Dijk remained firm, repeating “No word” and adding “No news to bring.”
