Viktor Gyokeres has reportedly chosen Man Utd.
Viktor Gyokeres has his heart set on a reunion with former Sporting boss Ruben Amorim at Manchester United next summer, according to reports.
The 26-year-old striker’s reported decision looks set to deal Arsenal frustrating implications as Barcelona turn their attention towards an alternative target courted by Mikel Arteta.
Gyokeres is widely expected to follow Amorim out the Jose Alvalade door at the end of the season after establishing himself among the world’s most prolific strikers in Lisbon.
Since joining Sporting from Coventry City last summer, the Sweden international has scored 67 goals in 70 appearances.
Amorim got the perfect tune out of Gyokeres before walking away from the Portuguese champions to become United’s new head coach this month.
And his former frontman is reportedly keen on resuming their working relationship at Old Trafford next year.
According to The Sun, Gyokeres is eyeing a return to English football in the Premier League and wants to reunite with Amorim.
His decision is claimed to have prompted Barcelona to divert their hunt for a new striker towards Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak.
The report adds that Gyokeres’ Sweden teammate has become Barca’s priority transfer target after learning the Sporting superstar will be difficult to sign.
Barcelona could switch their focus to Alexander Isak.
Isak – who has scored 40 goals in 79 games for Newcastle – has been heavily linked to Arsenal amid Arteta’s widely-documented need for a natural striker.
The towering 25-year-old landed at St. James’ Park from Real Sociedad in a club-record £66million deal two years ago and has cemented himself as a fan favourite on Tyneside.
However, he has yet to agree a new Newcastle contract, and preliminary talks held in the summer are reportedly not planned to resume soon.
His current deal stretches to 2028, but the Magpies could face pressure to sell from the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Isak himself could grow unsettled if Newcastle fail to qualify for Champions League football for a second successive season.
The Swede’s boss, Eddie Howe, is convinced he can become one of the world’s best strikers at the club.
“I feel that his potential is great,” Howe recently expressed.
“I think he can really – if he can continue on the path he has been the last few seasons – continue to go and prove himself as one of the world’s best.
“That would be, without putting pressure on him, my target if I was him.”
