Piers Morgan trolls Erling Haaland with brutal social media message after Man City's loss

Piers Morgan didn’t hold back on social media as he took a swipe at Erling Haaland following the Manchester City ace’s lacklustre performance in their stunning 4-0 defeat to Tottenham at The Etihad. The Premier League titans were left reeling after a fifth consecutive loss, just before their crunch clash with league leaders Liverpool next weekend.

Haaland, who missed two prime opportunities, has found the net only twice in his last seven outings, a stark contrast to his explosive start of 10 goals in the first five matches. James Maddison’s double, along with strikes from Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson, compounded City’s misery.

Arsenal supporter Morgan couldn’t resist a jibe at Haaland, referencing a previous encounter where the striker told Gunners manager Mikel Arteta to “be humble”. Morgan tweeted: “You’d DEFINITELY better stay humble after this, @ErlingHaaland,” accompanied by laughing emojis, highlighting the Norwegian’s dip in form since their earlier season meeting.

City’s recent slump has left them trailing in the Premier League, with star striker Erling Haaland’s dry spell in front of goal coinciding with a worrying three consecutive league defeats for Pep Guardiola’s side. The reigning champions now face the prospect of entering a critical clash with Liverpool a full eight points adrift of the leaders.

In a candid admission on BBC Radio 5 Live following the latest setback against Tottenham, Guardiola reflected on an unprecedented challenge in his eight years at the helm: “In eight years we have never lived this kind of situation. Now we have to live it and break it winning the next games, especially the next one. Now we see things in one way, maybe in a few weeks we see it differently.”

Guardiola also acknowledged the struggles within his squad, saying: “Of course. We are happy when we win and concerned when we don’t win. It’s normal. There would be a problem if they were not worried or I am not worried.”

The City boss remained philosophical despite the pressure, adding: “We are not used to doing this situation but life is like this. Sometimes it happens and we have to accept it. It is what it is now and we will stand up and do it.”
