Ruben Amorim has been backed to offer Jadon Sancho another opportunity to make the grade at Manchester United if he returns to Old Trafford next summer. Sancho joined Chelsea on a season-long loan on deadline day, but Erik ten Hag has since joined him in departing United.

A public row between the pair at the start of the 2023/24 season was the beginning of the end for the 24-year-old winger in Manchester.

But Amorim will have a dilemma on his hands in the unlikely case that Sancho doesn’t meet the criteria to turn his Chelsea switch permanent.

Sancho will permanently join the Blues in a £25million deal if Enzo Maresca’s side finish within the first 14 places in the Premier League this season.

Chelsea have started the campaign strongly, picking up 19 points from their opening 11 matches to sit in third behind Liverpool and Manchester City.

It would take a monumental collapse at Stamford Bridge to plummet below 14th. Chelsea have never sunk to such depths in Premier League history.

However, if their obligation to buy Sancho isn’t triggered, former Portugal international Jose Fonte believes his compatriot, Amorim, could make room in his squad.

“Jadon Sancho will get a chance to impress Ruben Amorim in the summer because it’s a fresh start and a new opportunity for everyone,” Fonte told JeffBet.

“Something might click between him and Amorim because he knows exactly what he wants from his players in every area of the pitch.

“He also likes to give the No. 10s freedom to be creative and that’s exactly what Sancho needs. It could be a great opportunity for him.”

Sancho enjoyed a blistering start to life at Chelsea, providing assists in his first three appearances against Bournemouth, West Ham United and Brighton and Hove Albion.

However, following two less influential displays in a draw with Nottingham Forest and a defeat at Liverpool, the England international has been absent in the following six matches.

Maresca has cited a minor injury and illness for Sancho’s sudden disappearance, but speculation is naturally swirling.

Whether Amorim would welcome Sancho back to Old Trafford remains to be seen in his bid to leave a mediocre decade in the past.

He made his desire for a clean slate abundantly clear with the dismissal of Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The 39-year-old tactician has also inherited an abundance of options for his two inside forward positions – namely Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad.
