Ruben Amorim took a leaf out of Jose Mourinho and Erik ten Hag’s book in his first week as Manchester United head coach.

United will hope Amorim is the answer to the decade-long question of who will restore the club’s status as a regular contender for the biggest honours. Mourinho and Ten Hag had a good crack at it but ultimately fell short of achieving the same feats as Sir Alex Ferguson’s era of dominance.

Amorim is a name in the hot seat unlike any of the iconic Scot’s previous successors, boosted by a revamped football hierarchy helmed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS.

There is a renewed optimism that the 39-year-old can build an empire similar to his exploits at Sporting and make United dream of more than the occasional domestic cup.

He will require a fresh approach to do so. Transferring his trademark 3-4-3 system from Lisbon would be a good start.

However, Amorim has reportedly been taking the same steps as Mourinho and Ten Hag while settling into life in Manchester.

According to The Sun, Amorim is currently based at the Lowry, a five-star hotel in Salford that housed Mourinho throughout his tenure as United boss.

The 61-year-old stayed put in a penthouse rather than moving into his own place after replacing Louis van Gaal in 2016, which drew criticism from some corners of the fanbase.

Amorim is unlikely to follow suit in doing that, but it’s claimed he is currently based there while he finds a permanent property in his new city.

The 39-year-old may have taken tips also followed by Ten Hag when it comes to his lifestyle in Manchester.

The report adds that Amorim has also been dining in Hale, a popular spot for United’s players and staff to live or spend evenings.

Amorim is said to have been spotted leaving Cibo, one of Cheshire’s most famous Italian restaurants, with his backroom staff.

Ten Hag was often seen indulging in Cibo’s cuisine with his wife and, on one occasion, with Ferguson, which stirred United’s fanbase.

A pasta dish costs around £18, with meat dishes priced up to £37. A steep bill would’ve been a guarantee for the size of Amorim’s posse.

That should be no issue for the United boss, though, given he reportedly earns £6.5million per year on his contract that runs until 2027.

Amorim is expected to start overseeing training on Monday ahead of his first game in charge of the Red Devils at Ipswich Town on Sunday.
