Man Utd news LIVE: Ruben Amorim will hold talks with Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Today’s the day. A new dawn at Manchester United rises. Ruben Amorim is expected to land in England to start his journey as the club’s new head coach. On the back of his thrilling final match as Sporting boss on Sunday, Amorim is set to get to work as Erik ten Hag’s permanent successor, taking the reins from interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The 39-year-old’s Sporting side fought back from a 2-0 deficit at half-time to win 4-2 at Braga in his farewell outing.
It extended the Portuguese champions’ perfect start to the season to 11 wins in 11 league games, while they also sit second in the Champions League after Tuesday’s 4-1 mauling of Manchester City.
Amorim has publicly admitted that he is inheriting a United team suffering at a “lower” point, but he will be salivating at the challenge of transforming another club’s fortunes.
Van Nistelrooy makes way after a successful caretaker stint, winning three of his four matches in charge since Ten Hag’s sacking.
His triumphs against Leicester City (twice) and PAOK and a draw with Chelsea gave him the highest win percentage among United’s managers.
Whether he remains at Old Trafford beyond the coming days remains to be seen, but it is a question that will be answered imminently.
Express Sport provides all the latest updates from Amorim’s first day at the United helm…
Sporting appoint Ruben Amorim replacement
Sporting have appointed Joao Pereira as the club’s new manager, replacing Ruben Amorim.
Pereira, a former right-back, has been a coach at Sporting since retiring in 2021 and was most recently in charge of the B team.
The 40-year-old has previously been an assistant coach in the first team but now faces the daunting task of succeeding Amorim.

Bruno Fernandes shows true colours
Bruno Fernandes produced a captain’s performance to help Manchester United beat Leicester City 3-0 on Sunday.
And he displayed an attitude that Ruben Amorim will love, which was acknowledged during MUTV’s live radio commentary.
Former United academy player Danny Webber hailed: “Obviously the goals were the cherry on top, [but] it was the performance as a whole [that impressed me].
“Both attacking, defending, watching him win it in the 85th minute, close the goalkeeper down and try and urge everybody forward.
“He’s a serious driver behind two goals and an assist, who’s at the heart of everything that was productive, that’s why. That’s what he does as the captain of his football club.”

Man Utd enquire about Christopher Nkunku
Manchester United have reportedly enquired about a potential January swoop for Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku.
According to L’Equipe, Nkunku is unhappy with his game time at Chelsea and has emerged as a transfer target at Old Trafford.
United are expected to do business in January, the first opportunity for Ruben Amorim to reshape his squad.
And the Red Devils could look at Stamford Bridge to solve their attacking woes this season.

Ruben Amorim still waiting for VISA
Ruben Amorim faces a wait to start work on the training pitch at Manchester United due to a frustrating work permit delay.
The Red Devils’ new head coach is reportedly still waiting to receive a VISA, which will allow him to work in the United Kingdom.
However, Amorim may not have overseen training until next week anyway due to the November international break.
Most of his senior players will be away with their countries until next week when preparations for the November 24 trip to Ipswich Town begin.
Ruben Amorim drops formation hint
Ruben Amorim has strongly suggested that he will stick with his preferred 3-4-3 system at Manchester United.
The Sporting boss claims that the lack of time on the training pitch makes it a no-brainer to instil what he already knows.
“I know how I am going to play in the beginning, because you have to start with a structure that you know,” Amorim explained on Sunday.
“Then you will adapt with the players that you have, some injuries, or no injuries, what kind of players have the abilities to defend, attack, I will discover that in the next few weeks.
“We don’t have a lot of time to train, so I have to show something that I know very well. You can take whatever you want from that.”
Ruben Amorim is set to stick with his 3-4-3.
Ruben Amorim confirms Ruud van Nistelrooy plan
Ruben Amorim has confirmed that he will speak to Ruud van Nistelrooy today, with the Dutchman waiting to hear about his future.
Van Nistelrooy only returned to Old Trafford in the summer, but Erik ten Hag’s exit has left his status uncertain.
Yesterday, Amorim suggested that he had already made his mind up about whether the Dutch icon would be part of his backroom staff.
“About a legend of the club. He did a great job. I have to talk with him tomorrow [Monday],” Amorim explained after the Braga win.
“Then I will explain everything. I am very clear and I will tell you like it is. Let’s wait until tomorrow.”
Ruben Amorim due in Manchester
Ruben Amorim reportedly will fly to England today to start work as Manchester United head coach.
He will likely spend this week getting to grips with his new environment at Carrington and in the city of Manchester.
The Portuguese coach can lay the foundations before he starts overseeing training sessions next week.
