Alphonso Davies has laid down his terms as Manchester United line up a blockbuster summer swoop for the Bayern Munich left-back, according to reports. The 24-year-old’s future at the Allianz Arena is in doubt, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, and United have emerged as serious players in the race for his signature.

Ruben Amorim will want an all-action left-wing-back for his 3-4-3 system once he gets to work at Old Trafford on Monday.

However, United have been plagued with injuries in the area for almost the entire year, contributing to Erik ten Hag’s struggles and, ultimately, his sacking.

Luke Shaw hasn’t played for the club since February – despite appearing for England at Euro 2024 – and Tyrell Malacia has been sidelined for 15 months.

United have reportedly identified Davies as a glorious opportunity in the market to solve their everlasting left-back crisis next summer.

According to GIVEMESPORT, the Canada captain would demand a signing-on fee of around £10m if he moves to Old Trafford as a free agent.

On top of his £240,000-a-week wages, Davies’ financial terms could be an insurmountable hurdle as INEOS attempt to undo a decade of poor spending in the transfer market.

He is widely expected to become Real Madrid’s latest marquee free transfer following Kylian Mbappe’s switch from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

But his reported hope of pocketing a staggering £10m fee could even be a stumbling block for the European champions.

United also went toe-to-toe with Real for Lille centre-back Leny Yoro earlier this year and came out on top after Los Blancos were unwilling to raise their offer.

The Red Devils sealed Yoro’s services in a £59m deal, which was viewed as a significant coup considering the 18-year-old’s blazing reputation.

Depending on how crucial Amorim would deem the former winger for his dramatic formation switch in Manchester, they could also flaunt their financial muscle in the battle for Davies.

The left-wing-back role can only be performed effectively by a specialist player, which United likely don’t currently possess in their ranks.

Shaw has experience operating as part of a three-at-the-back system for England and is the obvious candidate. However, the 29-year-old’s inconsistent fitness is proving detrimental to his club.

Harry Amass is one of the country’s brightest youth prospects and is expected to make his United breakthrough this season.

It would be a monumental ask for the 17-year-old to adapt instantly, though, so a foray into the transfer market is certainly on the agenda.
