Liverpool boss Arne Slot has responded to Mohamed Salah’s comments
Liverpool boss Arne Slot has responded to comments made by Reds star Mohamed Salah after he addressed his future on social media.
The Egyptian winger scored the winning goal in the 2-1 victory over Brighton on Saturday to take his tally to seven goals and five assists for the Premier League season.
But as it stands, the 32-year-old will be allowed to discuss a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January 1, with his current deal set to expire in June 2025 and with no renewal on the horizon.
In a social media post, Salah hinted he is preparing for a farewell from Anfield after seven years as a Liverpool player, which has raised eyebrows at Anfield as Virgil van Dijk could also depart on a free transfer.
When asked for his thoughts on Salah’s comments on social media, the Dutchman appeared to dodge the question and suggested his star man should feel free to post again after their game on Tuesday.
“You interpret that the way others maybe don’t. I don’t look at Instagram posts of the players, so I speak to them,” Slot said.
Mohamed Salah may leave Liverpool on a free transfer next summer
“Mo is in a very good place at the moment, [he] always has been at LFC but at the moment as well. Maybe he can post one [a social media post] after tomorrow and Saturday and what he says for that… it’s not important for me, just in conversations with me. Not how you guys interpret that post.”
Salah’s cryptic post, uploaded to his official Instagram account, read: “No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like.”
Slot admitted he would have sat down to discuss Salah’s future with him if he was aware of the social media post. However, the 46-year-old insisted now is not the appropriate time as they prepare to face Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.

“A reference to his future? If it was, I should have spoken [to him] about that,” he added. “But we have spoken only about Leverkusen because they deserve all our attention.
“He is out of contract and Virgil said something too and you interpret something with Mo too. This will continue but let’s hope they bring about the performances.”
Despite speculation surrounding his future and rumours of a potential money-spinning move to Saudi Arabia, Salah is poised to continue his run of starting every game since Slot took over as the Reds aim to build on their winning start in Europe against Xabi Alonso’s side.
Liverpool have already seen off Bologna, AC Milan and RB Leipzig in the new league phase and a fourth consecutive win in the competition would put them in the driving seat to secure their place in the next stage.
