Josko Gvardiol is set to earn a new Man City contract
Josko Gvardiol is reportedly set to secure a new contract and pay rise at Manchester City following an impressive first 15 months with the English champions.
The 22-year old-Croatian defender signed a five-year deal last summer, earning £120,000 per week, after completing a £70million transfer from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.
Man City chiefs are now planning to increase his weekly wage to £150k and extend his contract by two more years, keeping him at the Etihad until 2030 – according to the Daily Star.
These improved terms highlight the significant impact Gvardiol has made since joining the English club.
Despite initial difficulties in securing a regular spot, the former Dinamo Zagreb player has become a mainstay in Pep Guardiola’s preferred defence.
Guardiola appreciates Gvardiol’s versatility as he can play both as a left-back and a centre-back.
Moreover, Gvardiol has shown a remarkable ability to score crucial goals at key moments.
Capped 37 times by Croatia, Gvardiol scored four times during last year’s title run-in, helping the club secure their record fourth consecutive Premier League title.
He has maintained this excellent goal-scoring form into the new season, scoring in the draw against Newcastle and netting a stunning equaliser in City’s 2-1 comeback win over Wolves just last Sunday.
The club now intends to reward Gvardiol’s outstanding performances with a contract that secures his services for the rest of the decade.
