The father of ex-Arsenal stopper Aaron Ramsdale celebrated Bournemouth’s win over the Gunners
Aaron Ramsdale’s father has rubbed salt into Arsenal’s wounds after celebrating their Bournemouth’s emphatic 2-0 victory at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.
The Cherries stunned the Premier League title challengers, condemning them to their first defeat of the season. Ryan Christie’s scored after the interval and Justin Kluivert’s penalty late on sealed the points.
It ensured the South Coast outfit would be celebrating at the expense of Mikel Arteta’s men, who were reduced to 10 players after William Saliba’s sending-off in the first half.

But perhaps no one enjoyed their win outside of the club than Ramsdale’s father, Nick, following the goalkeeper’s departure from the Emirates this summer.
Reacting to the goal on social media, Ramsdale Snr wrote on X: “BACK OF THE NET BOSCOMBE!!!!!!!!”
His post was made in reference to the chant usually sung by the club’s fans, ‘Back of the Net, Boscombe’. It derives from the club’s original name, Boscombe FC, named after the town where the stadium is based.
Arsenal were stunned by Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium
It is no surprise to see Ramsdale’s dad revelling in Arsenal’s defeat on the road, as he has previously criticised the club for demoting his son to second-choice goalkeeper without any notice from Arteta.
The England international had been their undisputed No 1 between the sticks before David Raya signed on an initial loan in August 2023 before making the move permanent for £27million.
Ramsdale spent the entire 2023-24 Premier League campaign on the bench and opted to sign for Southampton on deadline day this summer after a mooted switch to Wolves collapsed.
Aaron Ramsdale joined Southampton in August in a deal worth up to £25m
The goalkeeper’s father has previously lashed out at the Arsenal boss for failing to inform the 25-year-old he was going to be replaced in goal.
“We did not have a clue [Ramsdale was going to be dropped for Raya],” Nick told the Highbury Squad podcast in November 2023.”I didn’t have a clue, our family didn’t have a clue, Aaron didn’t have a clue that he was not going to carry on playing.”
It appears the player himself doesn’t hold any ill feeling towards his former club over his treatment, as Saints stopper Ramsdale recently broke down in tears when he was given a warm reception by Gunners supporters on his return to the Emirates, which ended in a 3-1 win for the hosts.
But Raya’s error – in which the Spaniard conceded a penalty on Saturday for bringing down Bournemouth record signing Evanilson – may serve as some form of cathartic viewing following his brutal axe from the first team at Arsenal.
