Liverpool’s home kit will display a different sponsor against Chelsea
There will be a subtle difference to Liverpool’s iconic red home kit when they take to the pitch at Anfield this afternoon (Sunday).
The Reds are sponsored by ‘Standard Chartered’, with the British bank’s name having been plastered across the front of their shirt for the past 15 years. But in Liverpool’s home showdown with Chelsea, that will be replaced by ‘Futuremakers by Standard Chartered’ to advertise the company’s community engagement programme.
The jerseys will be auctioned off to raise money for the initiative once the players have finished putting the work in on Merseyside.
Futuremakers was established by Standard Chartered with the aim of helping young people improve their future prospects. Part of the bank’s website reads: “Young people need to be equipped with the skills to succeed in this new economy, yet there is a broadening gulf in access to resources. This is where we come in.
“Futuremakers is focused on breaking down barriers to opportunity and empowering the next generation to make meaningful contributions to the world around them.”
The auction for the jerseys has already opened and fans can give themselves a chance of getting their hands on one by visiting CharityStars.com/SCFM.
Liverpool men’s and women’s teams have both sported ‘Futuremakers’ in the past
Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold recently discussed the importance of helping and inspiring the next generation from his own perspective.
“Growing up I had idols like Stevie G and Carra,” he said. “In my mind it was like, ‘If they can do it, why can’t I?’ They’ve probably played on the same fields as I have. They were doing the same things in the academy and they came through the same system and were able to achieve it. So, if I’ve got enough discipline, hard work and talent then why can’t I go and do that?
“It’s sometimes the reason why I push myself – to show people if you’re willing to work hard enough that anything is possible. That’s something that is firmly in my mind, if you do think it, you can do it, but it’ll take hard work. But if you’re willing to put that in you can do and achieve any dream you want.”
Sunday’s clash with Chelsea will not be the first game in which Liverpool have swapped their ‘Standard Chartered’ shirt sponsor for ‘Futuremakers’, and Alexander-Arnold is hopeful that the switch will continue to treat them well.
“Thinking back to the games that we have worn them in the past, they’ve always been good ones for us so, yeah, I like it,” he added. “It’s special, it’s motivating and it’s inspiring for us all. It’s a reminder of a how big of an impact we can have on people’s lives and help in any way.”
