Liverpool look set to appoint Feyenoord boss Arne Slot as their new manager
Tottenham could be thwarted in the transfer market if Arne Slot completes his move from Feyenoord to Liverpool. Slot looks set to succeed Jurgen Klopp as Reds manager and could decide to take Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez with him.
Tottenham were said to be chasing Gimenez last year after losing Harry Kane to Bayern Munich and were told to stump up a record transfer fee to get their hands on the 23-year-old.
Earlier this month, Sportitalia claimed that Gimenez had become Tottenham’s priority signing ahead of this summer’s transfer window, with the north London giants already in talks with the player’s current employers over a move to England. But Slot could attempt to lure the Mexico international to Anfield instead.
Slot signed Gimenez from Mexican team Cruz Azul two summers ago, with the player going on to bag 47 goals in 85 appearances for Feyenoord. This season, the attacker has found the back of the net 21 times in 29 league matches, with his team on course to finish second in the Eredivisie table.

Gimenez has also shown he can cut it at international level having scored the winning goal in the closing stages of Mexico’s 1-0 victory over Panama in the final of the 2023 Gold Cup. And the star may be ready to test himself in the Premier League, despite having another three years remaining on his contract in the Netherlands.
Gimenez was in England on Sunday to watch Tottenham’s showdown with Arsenal in the north London derby. And his appearance at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium indicates he may already have his sights set on a move to the capital. But the battle for his signature could be about to intensify.

There could be a period of transition at Anfield in the coming months when Klopp finally departs after announcing his decision to quit Liverpool back in January. There are inevitable questions over the futures of a whole host of stars in light of Klopp’s impending exit, with the team in danger of breaking apart.
Mohamed Salah only has one more year left on his current deal and was the subject of a £150million bid from Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad last summer, although the Reds are now confident of keeping him. Meanwhile, Slot may not be convinced that Darwin Nunez is the right man to lead the line at Anfield, with the former Benfica star missing a hatful of chances this season.
Slot knows Gimenez inside out and has benefitted from the player’s talents over the last two seasons. And if the 45-year-old wants to work with a player he knows and trusts at Anfield, he could tell club chiefs to go and sign Feyenoord’s talisman.
