Manchester City’s Erling Haaland has hinted at supporting a potential player strike due to the congested football calendar.

Last month, his team-mate Rodri disclosed that top players had considered going on strike unless their workload is reduced. Rodri has since suffered a season-ending knee injury.

Haaland has now entered the discussion, cautioning football authorities that the current schedule is excessive. Having started the season feeling refreshed after skipping the Euros, Haaland emphasises the need for more downtime between competitions.

As he participates in the revamped Champions League and prepares for the new FIFA Club World Cup, Haaland warns governing bodies like FIFA, UEFA, and the Premier League that players require more rest.

Ahead of captaining Norway against Slovenia, Haaland stated: “It was very positive (resting in the summer), and you can see that on the pitch.

“I have much more energy, both on and off the pitch. My head is more rested.

“It’s more important than people think to have a break from your job, no matter what you do, especially if there’s a big physical strain.

“It will be exciting to see how long a break I will get next summer! “It’s starting to become an awful lot of matches, I think it has been for some years.

“The Premier League started with a winter break four years ago, but we won’t see anymore of that.”

“There has been too many matches for several years, not just after the new Champions League format. It’s nothing new, but it’s becoming a lot.”
