Vincent Kompany says that Harry Kane is set to play against Aston Villa.

Returning to England for the first time since his surprising departure from Burnley over the summer, the new Bayern Munich manager takes the Bavarians to Birmingham.

Kompany said that a last-minute decision will be made on the fitness of England captain Kane – who sustained a minor injury in the stalemate with Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend.

Kane managed to participate in training before travelling to the UK and Kompany is hopeful his top goalscorer will be involved at Villa Park.

“I think you have seen Harry was on the pitch today, that went well but we will still have to wait until tomorrow and see how the situation is and then we will make the correct decision,” he said.

“He trained with us today and hopefully everything will work out fine.”

Kane told Bild pre-match: “They (Villa) have a good team, they deserve to play in the Champions League after their great season.

“I’m always happy to come back to England and play there. It will be a huge atmosphere, it will be their first Champions League game in a very long time, it will be special for them.

“We try to dominate every game and play our style. We will press high and try to win the ball. And hopefully score a few more goals than we did against Leverkusen.”

While Villa may be newcomers to the Champions League and Bayern are old hands, the situation is reversed when it comes to the managers. Kompany is still cutting his managerial teeth, while Emery has been a fixture in European competitions for 17 seasons.

Emery commented: “Everyone has to start with game one, two or three. You can’t buy experience. If not, you have to compensate with your experiences in life. For me, that’s many games in this stadium.

“But it’s a game between the teams and the clubs. We have World Cup winners, Bundesliga winners, Premier League winners. The collective doesn’t lack experience.

“In terms of this game, we have to embrace it as much as Aston Villa. It’s a special night for them, but it’s a special night for us, too.”
