According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus are also keen to acquire the services of Greenwood this summer. The Serie A side have been monitoring his situation closely over the past few months and are said to have recently been in contact with United to sound out their interest and ask for more information on the player.

Juve director Cristian Giuntoli is reportedly the driving force behind The Old Lady’s interest, with Greenwood’s ‘talent and age’ viewed as two intriguing parts of his profile. The Italian giants are also aware that the versatile forward’s contract at Old Trafford expires in 2025, and they hope that this will enable them to strike a cut-price deal for his services.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, United’s new co-owner, refused to confirm whether Greenwood would be sold when speaking after acquiring his stake in the club. Instead, the INEOS chief confirmed that the higher powers at the Theatre of Dreams will hold discussions towards the end of the season to determine their stance on the playmaker.

He said: “It’s quite clear we have to make a decision. There is no decision that’s been made. He’s on loan, obviously, but he’s not the only one. We’ve got one or two footballers that we have to deal with and we have to make a decision on, so we will do that.

“The process will be: understand the facts, not the hype, and then try and come to a fair decision on the basis of values. Is he a good guy or not? Could he play sincerely for Manchester United well? Would we be comfortable with it, and would the fans be comfortable with it?”
