Gary Neville had the panel in stitches with his ‘worst purchase’ admission.
Gary Neville has ‘come clean’ about the worst purchase he made as a footballer, admitting it left him feeling ‘like a w****r’.
Neville enjoyed a storied career at Manchester United, with the right-back registering just under 600 appearances during his 19-year career with the Red Devils.
Lifting an impressive 12 Premier League titles and two European Cups, among a whole host of other major honours, Neville might not have been the flashiest member of the United squad, but he was no less important… and was likely paid handsomely for doing so too.
Reminiscing on his time as a professional during a podcast appearance with ‘It’s Called Soccer’, Neville was asked by host Rebecca Lowe what the most outrageous thing he’d used his lucrative wages to buy was.
Looking rather embarrassed, Neville proceeded to explain: “Right, I’m going to come clean on this.
He went on: “I always said to myself when I finished my football career that I wanted to drive a four-door massive big Bentley.
“The massive one. Not the Baby Bentley, like the big thing. So basically I bought one a couple years after my career and I had it for about three weeks.

Gary Neville retired from football in 2011.
“I recognised as I was driving round Manchester that I just felt like a proper w****r… not that I don’t now!”
Lowe and Neville’s partner in crime Jamie Carragher both burst into laughter, with the TV anchor then quizzing the ex-United star on what he did with the luxurious motor.
“I literally got rid of it after three weeks and lost a fortune on it. I bought this massive big Bentley and thought ‘This is it you’ve arrived, treat yourself you’ve had this amazing career you’ve done everything you wanted to do, you deserve this.”

However, the extravagant car proved too much for Neville, who revealed he didn’t feel himself when driving around his hometown.
“But as I was driving around I just wasn’t being true to myself… I come from Manchester and people are looking at you seeing you, it’s just like ‘it’s not me, you can’t be a right-back and drive a big Bentley’.”
Neville’s frank admission unsurprisingly got a major laugh out of Carragher, who would presumably back himself to pull most things off, driving a big Bentley around Manchester included.
