Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold is fearful of a hostile reception if he buys tickets to see Oasis in concert next year. Brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher are huge Manchester City fans, and there will be thousands more in attendance when they reunite in sold-out venues across the UK.

The country was effectively split in two when Oasis reunion tickets went on sale at the end of last month: Those who got tickets, and those who did not.

Alexander-Arnold, who was born in Liverpool and came through the club’s youth academy, was asked by Reds legend Jamie Carragher whether he was among the fortunate few.

“No,” he told CBS Sports. “I like Oasis, I like the songs but… I don’t know whether I’m welcome at their concert! And Carra, I don’t know whether you are either!”

Liverpool and City have forged a strong rivalry in recent years, with Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola routinely going head-to-head in the hunt for Premier League titles. Responding to Alexander-Arnold, Carragher said: “No chance! I’ve got the box though, I’ve got my name down. Wembley.”

Alexander-Arnold jumped in: “I might sneak in with you then.” And Carragher gladly accepted, saying: “You can be my plus-eight. It’s going to be me plus eight.”

Noel Gallagher is frequently seen attending City matches and he has struck up a friendship of sorts with Guardiola since he was appointed manager in 2016. The Oasis star was not quite so fond of former Liverpool boss Klopp when they met.

“He was a bit tall for my liking and he was a bit of a sore loser — the grass was too wet, it was a bit windy,” Gallagher told The Athletic. “But he was a lovely dude. His teams were unbelievable and, if it wasn’t for Pep Guardiola, they would have won three leagues. That Liverpool team would have destroyed pretty much every team that came before us.”

Carragher and Alexander-Arnold’s boisterous back-and-forth came after Liverpool’s impressive win at AC Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday night. And Alexander-Arnold was glad to be back in Europe’s top-tier club competition after one year away.

“This club belongs in the Champions League with the history that it’s had and last year [was] disappointing not being a part of it,” he said. “But we’re back were we belong and [there is] no better way to get this campaign started than getting a win at the San Siro – a special venue, a special stadium and an unbelievable result.”
