Why have Man City changed into white kit for Champions League? Special Oasis kit explained

Manchester City will be sporting a unique new kit when they face Inter Milan in the Champions League. The two teams, who previously clashed in the 2023 final, are set to go head-to-head once more at the Etihad.

However, Pep Guardiola’s side won’t be donning their usual sky blue home kit, nor their yellow and black away strip or burgundy third kit. Instead, they’ve chosen a cream and white ensemble.

This fourth kit, which stars like Erling Haaland, Kevin de Bruyne and Rodri will be snapped wearing on Wednesday night, is the brainchild of Oasis songwriter and die-hard City fan Noel Gallagher. The shirt pays tribute to the 30th anniversary of the British band’s ‘Definitely Maybe’ album, which boasted some of Gallagher’s iconic hits such as Live Forever and Half the World Away.

The kit, personally designed by Gallagher, mirrors the colours from the iconic album’s cover. It features a predominantly cream base, light-blue collar, sleeves, and shirt panel, along with a pink trim that showcases the Citizens’ badge and a ripple effect surrounding it, reports the Mirror.

Gallagher expressed his excitement about the new strip, saying: “It’s a proper honour,” adding: “When PUMA approached us at one of the games about designing a kit it took about five seconds to agree to it.”

“It’s the same colour palette as the cover of Definitely Maybe: it’s unique but it’s definitely striking, and I think it looks great. When you see people representing your club, it’s important that they look good. Definitely Maybe has never lost its magic to me, I just think it’s an amazing snapshot of what we were about.

“With the anniversary, I’ve been listening to it a lot more than I would ever listen to it, it makes me smile they were great times. It’s spawned a great football kit, it’s legacy lives on.”

The special edition kit is set to be worn by City during select European away matches, although the exact fixtures are yet to be confirmed. The team’s upcoming away games in the competition include matches against Slovan Bratislava, Sporting CP, Juventus, and PSG.

The kit is currently scheduled to make its only appearance on English soil in the match against Inter, so Premier League fans are out of luck should they have wished to see the number in action.
