Express Sport takes you through the day’s Manchester United headlines
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag will spend the international break plotting how his side can finally overhaul their woeful form and return back among the Premier League title contenders. A disastrous start to the campaign has seen the Red Devils earn only three points from their first three league games.
Ten Hag’s side have now won just four of their last 13 Premier League matches, although, as the Dutch coach enjoys pointing out, saindwiched in that run is an FA Cup final triumph over Manchester City. INEOS placed their trust in Ten Hag by retaining him, handing him a new contract, and financing a net spend of £100million during the summer transfer window. Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be keen to see an improvement.
United face winless Southampton after the international break and fans are eager to see how Ten Hag has improved the team.

Harry Maguire set to start this weekend
Harry Maguire is expected to start for England against Ireland this weekend, reports The Athletic.
New interim manager Lee Carsley is set to put his faith in the Manchester United defender in his first match in charge of the Three Lions.
Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi and Chelsea’s Levi Colwill will also start in defence for England at the Aviva Stadium.
Thomas Tuchel was ‘close’ to Man Utd agreement
Thomas Tuchel was reportedly close to agreeing to become Erik ten Hag’s replacement in the summer.
It is well documented that INEOS chiefs met with the former Chelsea boss in Monaco over potentially becoming the new United head coach.
However, INEOS eventually settled on retaining Ten Hag despite a dismal end to the Premier League season – albeit the Dutchman won the FA Cup.
German football pundit Marcel Reif has claimed that the situation was nearly very different, though.
He claims that Tuchel was actually “very far along” in agreeing to join United and was “almost in agreement”.

Christian Eriksen makes complaint
Christian Eriksen has complained after being substituted in the 62nd minute during Denmark’s victory over Switzerland.
The midfielder was anticipating enjoying a longer period on the pitch having scarcely featured for Man Utd this season.
So there was surprise when Eriksen’s number was displayed on the fourth official’s board with a little under half an hour remaining. The score at the time was goalless, although Denmark went on to win 2-0.
“Now, I haven’t had that many minutes during the season, so I thought he would look after me a bit,” Eriksen said.
“But it wasn’t today that I needed to be looked after.
“Apparently, that’s what he (interim boss Lars Knudsen) decided. I have already said that (he didn’t need to take me off),” he adds with a smile.
“I definitely am (ready to play against Serbia). Then, we’ll have to see what he chooses.”
Knudsen explained that he wanted to manage Eriksen’s minutes.
Man Utd appoint new performance director
Sam Erith has joined Man Utd as performance director.
Erith was previously a sports scientist at rivals Manchester City.
He is the second addition from City this summer, with Omar Berrada becoming United’s new CEO.
When do Man Utd next play?
An international break presents an opportunity for Erik ten Hag to go back to the drawing board.
A disappointing start to the season has seen Man Utd pick up just three points from their first three matches.
There will need to be an obvious improvement over the coming weeks.
United are next in action against Southampton in the early kick-off on Saturday, September 14.

Man Utd offered double deal
Man Utd have reportedly been offered free agent duo Adrian Rabiot and Yusuf Yazici.
Both players remain without clubs despite the majority of transfer windows slamming shut last Friday.
Rabiot left Juventus at the end of last season, while Yazici was previously with Lille.
TeamTalk report that United have held talks with Rabiot over a move but there are reportedly concerns that the French midfielder, 29, does not fit into INEOS’s new model.
Jim Ratcliffe has prioritised signing younger players on cheaper deals who can be developed into top stars.
HITC claim that United have been offered Yazici, who is 27.
Arne Slot snubs Sir Alex Ferguson
Arne Slot has named Kenny Dalglish and Jurgen Klopp as his most iconic Premier League managers.
Man Utd legend Sir Alex Ferguson and Man City boss Pep Guardiola are notable absentees from the new Liverpool manager’s thinking.
Asked by Sky Sports to name his greatest Premier League manager, Slot responded: “The first one that comes to my mind is Kenny Dalglish, and of course Jurgen Klopp.”
Roy Keane suggests new Casemiro role
Roy Keane has suggested playing Casemiro higher up the pitch.
The Man Utd midfielder was hauled off at half-time after making two mistakes which led to Liverpool goals last Sunday.
Casemiro has generally started in a holding midfield role but United icon Keane believes he could be useful further up the pitch.
“I wouldn’t be writing him off yet,” the ex-midfielder said.
“His role in the team, if he gets back in and a couple of games under his belt, might be a bit higher up the pitch.
“The first thing we always say is, ‘he can’t get around the pitch’. But what we’ve seen going forward, he does have an eye for a pass. Set-pieces, how many times does he get his head on it?”
Jurgen Klopp takes swipe at Erik ten Hag
Jurgen Klopp has taken a subtle swipe at Erik ten Hag for not supporting Jadon Sancho through a tough time at Man Utd.
Ten Hag fell out with Sancho 12 months ago and the winger was banished from the first team.
He was subsequently loaned out to Borussia Dortmund. He has since joined Chelsea on loan and will sign for the Blues permanently.
Klopp appeared to take a dig at the situation ahead of deadline day, saying: “If the whole world loses trust and faith in the player, the manager has to be the one behind the player.
“I cannot just buy into that ‘he’s useless,’ like other clubs did by the way – buying a player for £80 million and then sending him out on loan!”
Manuel Ugarte’s Man Utd debut dilemma
Man Utd could be force to delay Manuel Ugarte’s debut.
The defensive midfielder’s long-awaited arrival was finally confirmed on deadline day, with the Red Devils securing a £42m switch from Paris Saint-Germain.
Ugarte was not registered in time to face Liverpool.
However, he could be in line to make his debut against Southampton on September 14.
Ugarte plays for Uruguay in Venezuela on September 10, though, four days before the early Saturday kick-off against the Saints.
To make matters worse, the World Cup qualifier kicks off at 11pm UK time, meaning Ugarte will have little time to travel back to Manchester and be ready to start against Southampton.
Casemiro subs transfer exit
Casemiro has reportedly turned down a switch to Galatasaray.
Reports in the Turkish media claim that Man Utd agreed a loan deal for the midfielder to depart Old Trafford.
However, Turkiye Gazetesi claim that the Brazilian snubbed the proposal.
Casemiro has endured a tough start to the season and was hauled off at half-time during last Sunday’s 3-0 defeat by Liverpool.
