Luke Jovic has endured a dramatic fall from grace since he was offered to United
A former Manchester United target is on the verge of being released by his club despite Real Madrid paying £59million for his services a few years ago. Luka Jovic, who is currently plying his trade at AC Milan, was once considered as one of the most promising strikers in Europe but has endured a dramatic fall from grace.
Jovic went from strength to strength during his time at Eintracht Frankfurt, scoring 40 goals in 93 appearances during his two-year spell on their books. His prolific form earned him a move to Real Madrid in 2019 but things quickly went south as he struggled to cope with the added pressure.
The Serbia international managed just three goals in three seasons either side of a loan return to Frankfurt and was eventually allowed to leave on a free transfer. He ended up joining Fiorentina after going down as one of Real Madrid’s worst ever signings, given the amount of money they spent to bring him in.
Speaking after his departure from Spain, Jovic admitted that he should have stayed at Frankfurt for at least one more season before trying his luck at the world’s most famous club.

The Serbian forward was unable to meet expectations during his time at Real Madrid
“Everything went wrong from the beginning,” he told La Reppublica. “I left Eintracht too early, after only one season at the top. All the spotlights were on me, but for a 21-year-old, it was difficult to fit into the biggest club in the world. Between injuries, COVID, and unfair pressure, it was an unhappy experience.”
Jovic had a better spell at Fiorentina, scoring 13 goals from 50 appearances in all competitions to earn himself a move to Milan last summer. However, his form has dropped off since joining the Italian giants and he is now a bit-part player.

The 26-year-old is on six league goals for the season but has only started in 21 per cent of matches since the beginning of the campaign. He has failed to dislodge Rafael Leao as the club’s first-choice striker, being left as an unused substitute on seven occasions.
It was not too long ago that Jovic was being linked with a move to United, with Real Madrid reportedly offering him to the Red Devils back in 2020. However, they ended up signing Edinson Cavani instead which, in hindsight, was clearly a better decision.
Jovic’s contract at Milan will expire at the end of this season and there is no sign of him being offered a new deal as things stand. It remains to be seen where he will go next as he looks to resurrect his career and finally deliver on the world-class potential he once showed.
