Gulmit is Gojal's largest settlement. It locates on the main KKH at an altitude of about 8871 feet (2,703 meters) and a distance of 135 km both from Gilgit city and mighty Khunjrab Pass. It served as the winter capital of the former Hunza state and nowadays it is the headquarter of Gojal magistracy, within Hunza sub-division. The village hosts different Governmental and Civil Society Organizations for the highly scattered Gojal valley.
The total population of the village is about 2463 individuals with 308 households. People speak Wakhi language.
